I recall the NEM and obtained several cassette tapes of lectures and discussion. I probably still have those tapes…somewhere. They also published a magazine I think.
I would say that in general humanity is in a state of “arrested development” and that the underlying cause is an obsolete economic system which is surely bound up with your scarcity mentality analysis.
These geniuses who deny even the possibility of “energy from the plenum” (I accept full blame for that description) are akin to the religious authorities who refused to look through the early telescopes for fear that what they might find would contradict their sacred catechism.
Maybe it is on its way out. That may be the magazine that you are thinking of. After that first conference, I quit, Brian moved to South America and was soon kicked out, and NEM never did anything again of significance that I know of.
On that denial by the "smart," it has always been this way, that the day's intellectuals think that they have it all figured out or they have the only tools to figure it out. That is arrogant folly that will likely last while we have a world based on scarcity and fear. It leads to puffed up egos, for survival purposes. In the Fifth Epoch, everybody's egos are are going to get to relax. :)
